Due to complications created by Hurricane Frances, the Disney Cruise Line 
sends its two ships, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder, to Port 
Everglades in Fort Lauderdale (instead of Port Canaveral) to disembark.

This Is My Time, the third studio album by singer-songwriter and actress Raven-Symoné, is released by Hollywood Records in Europe. The album is her debut with the Disney-owned label. It will be released in the U.S. on September 21.
1911:
Master animator, artist and Disney Legend Robert Fred Moore is
born in Los Angeles, California. Despite limited formal art training, he rose to
prominence at Disney very quickly in the early 1930s due to his great natural talent and 
the tremendous appeal of his drawings. "Freddie" worked on such Disney classics as
PinocchioThe Legend of Sleepy HollowFantasiaDumbo and Peter Pan. He later
become resident specialist on animating Mickey Mouse. Moore's animation of the earlier
Mickey design is especially memorable in the 1938 short Brave Little Tailor - the last 
significant appearance of the "pie-eyed" Mickey. Moore later redesigned the character
for his landmark role as The Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia, a look which remains 
Mickey's official look to this day! (Unfortunately a fatal car accident ended Moore's promising career in 1952.)
1929:
Disney's second Silly Symphony cartoon El Terrible Toreador, directed by Walt
 Disney and featuring the music of Carl Stalling, is released. A barmaid, a Mexican officer and
 a terrible toreador form a love triangle, as they dance, skip, kiss, and romp to the tune of Bizet's "Carmen." 
1969:
Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color airs for the final time on NBC-TV. 
Starting with the next episode the series will be titled The Wonderful World of Disney
1976:
Jason Blain Carson, a member of Disney Channel's The All New Mickey Mouse Club
 (for seasons 4-5) and later part of the country group Shiloh, is born in Mesa, Arizona.
1984:
Morocco - the first new World Showcase pavilion to be added to the original roster 
since the park's 1982 opening - debuts at EPCOT. Located between France and Japan, the 
Morocco pavilion re-creates the architecture and atmosphere of Casablanca, Fez, and Marrakech. It is the first 
country in World Showcase sponsored by the government and not a corporation. The king of Morocco actually
sent his royal craftsmen to lay all the tile work, carvings and paintings in the pavilion!

The Disney board asks for, and receives, Ron Miller's resignation. (Despite rumors, Michael 
Eisner president of Paramount Pictures, is not chosen as new CEO at this time.)

Actress Afton Williamson is born in Sylvania, Ohio. Best known for the lead role of Police Officer
Talia Bishop in the ABC series The Rookie, she also appeared in 3 episodes of ABC's Nashville in 2012.
1996:
At Disneyland Paris, a major fire damages portions of the Sequoia Lodge hotel
 at 6:45 a.m., forcing hundreds of groggy guests to flee.
Thankfully, most guests are already awake ready for the park's Saturday opening, but about 100 people flee
 with little more than the pajamas on their backs. Disney officials give these guests a free spending spree in
 the park's shops to re-clothe themselves. The blaze is extinguished in three hours, but guts much of the roof of
one section, and damages dozens of rooms.

The Themed Entertainment Association presents its 1996 THEA
Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The winners include
Epcot's Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Disneyland's Indiana Jones Adventure - The Temple of the Forbidden
 Eye, and the Disneyland Paris attraction Space Mountain - From the Earth to the Moon. (The THEA award
 is named after the Greek Goddess, Thea, who symbolizes the form and substance of imagination.)
1997:
Disneyland's Circle-Vision theater, which offered daily showings of America 
the Beautiful, the last film Walt Disney worked on, closes in Tomorrowland. 
Opened since 1955, the theater (originally called Circarama) will subsequently be integrated into the 
Rocket Rods preshow.
1998:
Labor Day: At Walt Disney World, Mr. Toad takes his last Wild Ride as the 
popular Fantasyland attraction is scheduled to close after this day.

At Disneyland, the Hercules Victory Parade makes a final appearance.

The 1998 Official Disneyana Convention takes place at Walt Disney 
World's Contemporary Resort for the next 5 days. 
1999:
The 1999 Disneyana Convention kicks off for 5 days at Disney World.
2001:
Disney World presents its 19th annual celebration of contemporary Christian
 music at the Magic Kingdom. Night of Joy 2001 features performances by seven acts over the
 course of two evenings. The entertainment begins each evening at 8 p.m. (after regular Magic Kingdom
 closing), with musical performances by artists such as Jars of Clay and Michael W. Smith at stage
 locations throughout the park. 

Disney's "Playhouse Disney - LIVE" (a 10-city mall tour featuring a live stage
 show for preschool children) kicks off in Cleveland, Ohio, at The Avenue at
 Tower City Center.

Disney's Touchstone Pictures releases the drama "New Port South." A group of teenagers uncover a scandal involving an ex-student, resulting in a rebellion against the administrators and teachers in their
suburban Chicago high school called New Port South. Directed by Kyle Cooper, the cast includes Todd Field,
Blake Shields, Chad Christ, Kevin Christy, Will Estes, Melissa George, and Raymond J. Barry. The film has been written by James Hughes, son of filmmaker John Hughes - the producer of "New Port South."
2002:
For the second evening in a row Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom 
hosts their 20th anniversary Night of Joy concerts. Performers include Michael 
W. Smith, Petra, Jaci Velasquez, Plus One, Audio Adrenaline, Stacie Orrico and Joy Williams.
2003:
Raven-Symoné (of Disney Channel's That's So Raven
sings the national anthem at the White House.
2006:
Disney's El Capitan Theatre kicks off a limited engagement
 of an all new digitally enhanced The Little Mermaid.

Disney's animated short The Little Match Girl is released.
Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, it is
based on an original story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, first published in 1845.

Animator, producer, and product designer Bernard Wolf passes away at age 95 in California. Beginning his career in animation in 1924, he worked for Fleischer Studios before moving to Walt Disney Studios in 1935. Wolf's credits included PinocchioFantasia, and Dumbo. He left Disney after the famous 1941 strike and began work at MGM before being drafted during World War II. After the war, Wolf worked briefly for ex-Disney animator Rudolph Ising before forming his own company, Animedia Inc. Animedia produced animation for advertising and commercial films. The company also designed some of the costumes used at Walt Disney World.

2007:
Disney World's 25th annual Night of Joy kicks 
off for 2 evenings in the Magic Kingdom.

Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood presents the 1967 
animated classic The Jungle Book (through September 23).

"Graduation," the one-hour series finale of Disney Channel's "Kim Possible" airs. While Ron worries that graduation means the end of his romantic relationship with Kim, a vengeful Warmonga returns with her battle-mate, Warhawk the Conqueror, to invade Earth. On graduation day, Kim is abducted along with Drakken by the alien invaders, and must work alongside him, Ron, and Shego to foil the Lorwardians' planetary assault. The animated action comedy television series created by Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle, had first debuted on June 7, 2002. "Kim Possible" is the second animated series, after "The Proud Family", to air exclusively on Disney Channel, as well as the first ever show on the network to be produced by Walt Disney Television Animation as an original series. It also became the first Disney Channel animated series to be produced in high-definition. "Kim Possible" took place primarily within the town of Middleton, USA and focused on the life and adventures of Kim (voiced by Christy Carlson Romano), an accomplished high school student who fights crime with her best friend and sidekick Ron Stoppable (voiced by Will Friedle).
2008:
Today is the final day for Golden Dreams, a film about the history of California, 
featured at Disney California Adventure Park. An original opening day attraction, Golden 
Dreams starred Whoopi Goldberg as Califia, the Queen of California. It is scheduled for removal to make 
way for the "Voyage of the Little Mermaid" a new dark ride attraction.

Songwriter Hall of Famer Diane Warren is born in Van Nuys, California. Her music 
can be heard in such Disney & Touchstone films as The Princess Diaries 2: Royal EngagementCoyote UglyArmageddonSnow DogsAtlantis: The Lost EmpirePearl Harbor, and My Favorite Martian. Recently Warren penned the ballad "Free" for the 2020 The One and Only Ivan (performed by Charlie Puth). Fans of pop and country music know Warren for such penned hits as "Because You Loved Me" and "Un-Break My Heart." (Warren has had nine number-one songs and 32 top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She has won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, three consecutive Billboard Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year, and has been nominated
for ten Academy Awards.)

2009:
The astronauts aboard the orbiting Space Shuttle and International Space
Station pack up Buzz Lightyear in preparation for the ride home the following
day. The 12-inch action figure, who has been at the station for more than a year, will return to Earth September 11.

The Disney short No Sail, directed by Jack Hannah, is released. Goofy and Donald 
Duck go sailing in a coin operated rented boat, but have to deal with sharks when they run out of nickels!
2010:
Today is the last day Disney fans can wander and splash around in the Bountiful 
Valley Farm area of Disney California Adventure. The farm area in A Bug’s Land is set to close the 
following day so workers can start building the entrance to Cars Land, which is under construction south of the 
farm area. The 12-acre Cars Land is scheduled to open in 2012.

Also closing is the attraction Maliboomer, located in the Paradise Pier section of DCA. Running since the park's debut in 2001 and manufactured by S&S Power, Mailboomer was a Space Shot attraction (it launched guests from the bottom
of the tower instead of slowly lifting them to the top and dropping them from there). The ride was pneumatically powered,
with three connected towers, each with its own independent ride system.
1970:
Film, theatre and television actor Thomas Everett "Tom" Scott is born in 
Massachusetts. First known to film fans for his performance in That Thing You Do!, Scott supplied the 
voice of Milo's dad in Disney's 2011 Mars Need Moms. His live-action Disney credits include 
Air Buddies and Snow Buddies (as the voice of Buddy) and the 2009 Race To Witch Mountain.

Disney theme parks welcome their 1 billionth guest - Mary Smith from Illinois!
After walking through the main gate of Walt Disney World, she is awarded a lifetime pass for her and her family, 
and a cross-country flight to Disneyland.
1990:
Night of Joy 1990 kicks off for the first of two evenings at WDW's Magic Kingdom. Acts
 include Shirley Caesar, Carman, Steven Curtis Chapman, DeGarmo & Key, Petra, and Rez Band.
1991:
The two-part Darkwing Duck episode "Darkly Dawns the Duck" airs as an hour-length 
TV special as part of a larger TV special, "The Darkwing Duck Premiere and Back to 
School With the Mickey Mouse Club." (It serves as the show's pilot.) 

Actress/comedian Jennifer Veal is born in England. Landing the recurring role of Nanny Agatha on Disney Channel's sitcom Jessie (which she held until 2013), she also lent her voice to the Disney Channel Animated Series Descendants: Wicked World and Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.

Alliance. (The HPA is the trade association of motion picture post production professionals and businesses 
in Hollywood.) Film editor Stephen Schaffer, A.C.E. is nominated for Outstanding Editing - Feature Film. Sound 
editors Tom Myers, Michael Semanick, and Michael Silversis are nominated for Outstanding Sound - Feature 
Film. Winners of the 2011 HPA Awards will be announced on November 10 at a gala event in Los Angeles.

Walt Disney Imagineering tops the new Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California 
Adventure park with its crowning feature – a cupola modeled after the one which 
sat atop the real theatre (which was the site of the 1937 world premiere of Snow 
White and the Seven Dwarfs).
2012:
Former Disney senior executive Bob Lambert, who helped Disney move from film to
 digital production, dies at his Glendale, California home at age 55. It was while working for
 Disney Feature Animation, that Lambert realized a method to replace cel animation with CGI production. He chose
 Steve Jobs’ Pixar to design the software and supervised the collaborative process between the companies.
Starting with Disney in 1985, Lambert served as president of technology operations and licensng and chairman of
 Disney’s inter-divisional technology board, mapping technology and innovation approaches in new media with
 Disney’s world­wide business units and technology partners.

Night of Joy 2012 kicks off for the first of two evening at Magic Kingdom in Walt
 Disney World. This evening's entertainment line-up includes Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin,

Producer, director, and writer Perce Pearce, best known for his work with Disney,

Mark Isham, a musician, film composer, trumpeter and synthesist, is born New York City. He's contributed to such film & televsion soundtracks as Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2013–2014), Beauty and the Beast (2012), Once Upon a Time (2011–2018), Invincible (2006), Eight Below (2006), and Miracle (2004).

Innoventions East, an exhibit building located in Epcot, closes. Focusing on technological advancements and their practical applications in everyday life, Innoventions is a portmanteau of the words "innovation" and "invention". First opening in September 1994 (along with Innoventions West), it hosted such
exhibits over the years as Bill Nye - The Science Guy, Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, The Sum Of All Thrills, presented by Raytheon, and Colortopia, presented by Glidden. (Innoventions West had closed in May 2015.)
2015:
Pickle and Peanut, an animated television series created by Noah Z. Jones, debuts on Disney XD. About two friends, Pickle and Peanut (an anthropomorphic pickle and peanut), the series will run for two seasons.
2018:
Remember... Dreams Come True, a fireworks display at Disneyland originally commemorating the 50th anniversary of the park in 2005, returns for a 4th time.
It will entertain guests through January 2019.
